On 15th and 16th May, we celebrated Rabindranath Tagore, whose birthday was on May 7th. Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter, who transformed Bengali literature, music and Indian art. He was also the first non-European and lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913. He is an inspiration to us all and for that reason we wanted to honour him as a community.
Our event was graced by our board members and we honoured Rabindranath Tagore with flowers and other activities in our programme. The day consisted of our students, young and old, reciting meaningful poems of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Najrul Islam. Some of our students performed creative dances and others sang beautiful songs. Due to unforeseen weather disturbances, we continued the rest of our event the next day. Our Bhabiswat students performed their drama, written by Rabindranath Tagore, about the dowry system, and some more young students danced to a song written by Rabindranath Tagore. Later, the students and some staff members received prizes for their work and poems. The event was a great success and we are thankful we were able to share this special day with our community.
