Women are the most vulnerable members in unprivileged communities, especially among minorities. Due to the lack of education, low social status and unemployment, they often face humiliation or/and domination from family members as wel as society. NOSKK thought about collectivisation of these women through SHG formation and microfinance initiatives in order to strengthen and empower them. The basic theory is, that microfinance empowers women by putting capital in their hands and allowing them to earn independently and contribute financially to their households and communities. This economic empowerment is expected to increase their self-esteem, respect, and other forms of empowerment for women beneficiaries. Involvement in successful income-generating activities should translate into greater control and empowerment. NOSKK is covering the entire area of Uluberia Sub-division under this programme. So far, 6438 women are involved in 392 SHGs in 27 villages under 3 Gram Panchayat of 4 blocks.
